Finding the best neutral mediator is always a difficult challenge. The Mediation Directory makes the selection mediator process easy. Mediator profiles contain the knowledge, skill and expertise of each experienced mediator. Mediators will provide professional consultation to help resolve your dispute issues.

Step 1: Select a U.S. State

We have all fifty U.S. States, plus Puerto Rico and Guam. For International mediation, mediators and legal professionals, please consult the menu tab “International” in the top navigation menu. Select the U.S. State where your legal issue or problem is located.

Step 2: Select a County Area within the State

Within each U.S. States, we have listed the County areas. The County areas are aligned with judicial court districts. Select the County area where your dispute issue or problem is located.

Step 3: Select a Legal Practice Area

We have an extensive list of legal practice areas. Select the legal practice area that most closely applies to your specific situation. Within each legal practice area we have included examples of issues associated with each area of legal practice.

After you have selected the STATE, COUNTY and PRACTICE AREA, Click the SUBMIT button.

Step 4: Review Mediators in Legal Practice Area

The search results will display a list of Mediators. Review their professional profiles. A local mediator is typically your best source of information. We suggest that you make contact with several mediators to find a neutral mediator that you are comfortable with. Expertise and fees will vary. We recommend an in-person consultation before deciding to retain a mediator.

 

During The Mediation, What Does The Mediator(s)Do?

Traditionally mediation is conduct by a single mediator. However, co-mediation or a panel of three mediators is becoming commonplace. Co-mediation and panel mediation allows each party to select a mediator instead of mutually agreeing on a single one.

At the Initial Mediation Session:

- Assess whether and how to intervene with the Parties

- Creates a comfortable environment for communication

- Invites parties to participate, to share their thoughts and concerns

- Establishes the purpose, structure and guidelines of mediation with the parties.

Throughout the Mediation Session:

- Helps each party to feel heard, respected and acknowledged

- Identifies the key issues that parties need to address and the interests influencing these issues

- Outlines the issues and interests so they can be visually seen

- Continues to create an ambiance of safety and dignity

- Helps keep the process focused and forward moving

- Manages emotions and communication styles

- Deals with unproductive power dynamics and egos

- Encourages risk taking

- Facilitates an effective negotiation process

- Sorts out personal and emotional impasses and position obstacles.

During the Mediation Resolution Process:

- Encourages creativity and out-of-the-box ideas

- Helps parties brainstorm solutions with each other

- Helps each party think through their options

- Establishes vocabulary words of potential agreements

- Discuss how agreed resolutions can be implemented

- Drafts a Resolution Agreement to be reviewed

- Finalizes Resolution Agreement in writing signed both parties
